1. If you need to re-paint, do it now

2. Clean the cabinets, drawers, and refrigerator

You don’t want to clean your new kitchen when you’re all set to unpack the kitchen boxes stacked in the middle of the room, right? So it’s best to get the cleaning process done and dusted beforehand, so you can jump in and tackle things the way you want.

Doing the cleaning in advance also ensures that you can go deep. You’ll be tempted to settle for a quick wipe-down because you’re anxious to get everything in place. Don’t. You don’t know what’s been in the cabinets before, so it would be a good idea to take your time and scrub the whole bunch thoroughly.

3. Make sure that all the appliances and outlets work

And the last thing you need is to find out that your refrigerator is not working once you plug it in.

4. Get organisers for cabinets and drawers

Take the opportunity while your shelves are empty to measure the inner area for shelf and drawer organisers. You may find out you have a cupboard big enough for a pull-out drawer, or that you’ll need to get a wire rack or two for the cabinet by the dishwasher to fit all your plates and bowls. 5. Plan out where everything will go

The very last thing to do before you finally move into your kitchen is to consider where everything will go. Look at your kitchen and divide it into working areas. Consider where you want to keep your cookware, whether there’s enough room within the cabinets, or if you’ll need to get a hanging pot rack. Keep the drawers for storage space and plan out your cabinets. Place sticky notes on everything if you want. That way whoever receives the duty of unpacking the kitchen boxes will know exactly where everything needs to go.
